Nail polishes and lipsticks commonly applied by parents to their children contain chemicals, and long-term use of these substances can lead to blood disorders and skin cancers.
The secretary of the Iranian Radiotherapy and Oncology Association noted: Another compound used in this industry is “lead.” This heavy metal is commonly found in cosmetics, particularly inlipsticksas it provides longevity and vibrancy in color. However, as we know, the use of heavy metals can lead to serious poisoning, neurological issues, blood disorders, and ultimately cancer.
This cancer expert highlighted: “Formaldehyde” is another substance commonly used in the cosmetics and hygiene sector. It is added to colors as a preservative and brightening agent. Breathing in formaldehyde gas can lead to respiratory issues, and its presence in cosmetics may cause serious respiratory sensitivities.
He identified the most prevalent chemicals in cosmetics as “parabens,” stating: These substances serve as preservatives in all cosmetic and hygiene products and certainly lead to hormonal disruptions duringpregnancyand puberty.
Cosmetic products often have a range of harmful chemicals, but those made to higher standards generally contain fewer harmful substances. Hence, while it’s not feasible to entirely avoid these products, their use should be minimized as much as possible for children and women duringpregnancyand breastfeeding, as they can lead to problems like neurological disorders, hormonal disruptions, blood issues, and long-term risks of blood and skin cancers. Additionally, it’s advisable to purchase these products from well-known cosmetics and hygiene retailers.
This expert suggested: Buyers should always review the components of cosmetic products and refrain from buying those with lead andarsenicpresent.
A quick method to check for lead in cosmetics is to apply some product to your skin and rub a piece of gold over it; if it darkens, the product has heavy metals, and you should refrain from using it.
