Hair Burn Treatment and Repair with Bleach + Complete Guide
How can we quickly and safely repair damaged bleached hair?
Diversity in hair beauty and using different colors can give your hair a special charm. However, sometimes, lack of care in selecting the right dye or bleach not only takes away the beauty of your hair but also leads to burning it. Have you bleached your hair and ended up with damaged, overly light strands? If yes, this section of the fashion world is for you.SelmaDermaRead on for solutions to repair your damaged hair as we will be discussing effective methods.
We have prepared a complete guide to teach you how to repair damaged hair through several methods, offering you a 4-week corrective treatment, or if you prefer a much quicker solution, you can try what we call a miracle treatment, which is truly life-changing for those with bleached hair. Let’s get started, but first, let’s gain some knowledge about how hair reacts to bleach and gets damaged.
Four Rules for Damaged, Bleached, or Burnt Hair
First of all, stay calm and before trying our 4-week treatment, ensure that if your hair has just turned white, it doesn’t suffer further damage. Yes, you already have damaged or burnt hair, so it is fragile and vulnerable to many chemical and non-chemical processes. Since your hair lacks oil and has lost moisture, we need to fortify it by providing moisture and products that help the scalp to retain moisture and strengthen hair.
Rule 1: Avoid harsh shampoos for at least a week:
If you thought we would advise you not to wash your hair for a week, don’t worry, you don’t have to… We know some people give that advice, but we believe it’s not strictly necessary.
It might have been true in the past when hair products weren’t effective enough, but that’s no longer the case. First, let’s understand why many believe bleached hair can’t be washed. In fact, regular shampoos tend to strip natural hair, which is not what you want.
Continuous use of shampoo while your hair is damaged may worsen its dryness. Additionally, if you have an oily scalp, not using shampoos for a week can allow the scalp oil to soften your scalp and hair. This is true, but we have ways to work around that.
Seriously, would you be willing to skip washing your hair for a week? Well, if you lived on a deserted island… maybe, but in real life, it gets a tad more complex…
So what can be done? I recommend using some cleansing conditioners instead of regular shampoo.Coconutis a great option. These types of cleansing conditioners help “clean but do not strip” your hair like regular shampoos do; instead, they add extra moisture to freshly bleached hair.
Another task is to ensure your regular shampoo does not contain harsh detergents like sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES).
Rule 2: Say goodbye to flat irons and blow dryers!
Blow drying, straightening, and other heat tools that are applied directly to hair will cause more damage. Set aside these styling tools for now because you will only cause more harm to your hair; it’s better to prevent further damage as mentioned before. Even using sprays will still damage the hair, just to a lesser extent, and it will lose its natural moisture.
Rule 3: Use nourishing conditioners and oils:
Here lies the biggest weapon against damaged and bleached hair. How to treat bleached and damaged hair? Repeat this phrase over and over: “Conditioner is my best friend.” This method is hugely beneficial after bleaching your hair.
Never let your hair go without a conditioning treatment. This isn’t just an ordinary conditioner you need to apply. You should also have a conditioning product to help your hair retain moisture throughout the day, especially in very hot and cold weather, making it a powerful combination for keeping your hair healthy.
Rule 4: Perform deep conditioning to aid in rebuilding your hair.
Deep conditioners differ from regular conditioners in that their ingredients have a low molecular weight, allowing them to penetrate obstacles and reach deeper layers such as the hair cortex (center).
So, these above are four rules you can initially follow as general guidelines for repairing your bleached hair. If you fail to do so, the most important part is to keep your hair hydrated and help it become stronger and more resilient every day.
You can edit one step, switch a product, add another step, or focus on other techniques to revive your hair, but you must ensure you keep working at it until your hair returns to its healthier state.
If your hair is damaged, you can try our 4-week treatment. Of course, if the treatment isn’t beneficial enough, your hair may be too damaged, which may be discussed in the next section. Alternatively, you can seek help from some hair specialists at salons.
Keep in mind that with this repairing method, your hair may improve in the first week, but keep at it. This is the most crucial week where we need to saturate our hair with good fatty acids, like keratin for “rebuilding.”
Also, please remember that depending on your situation and interests, you can fully enhance the treatment. Nothing is obligatory.
First week of treatment:
- Follow this nighttime routine every day and 3 hours before sleeping:
- MaskCoconut oilApply to your hair and let it sit for three hours.
- Use a sulfate-free shampoo or a cleansing conditioner.
- Utilize a deep conditioning hair mask overnight. (You can use a reusable shower cap on your hair and let it sit overnight) and wash it out the following morning.
- Use a conditioner containing keratin and finally dry your hair without a blow dryer or any direct heat.
Note:
The most important point about coconut oil for hair is that it penetrates the hair shaft to hydrate from within and helps repair damaged hair. It’s a sure way to have stronger and healthier hair.
Massage some coconut oil into your hair; applyon the hair, not the scalp. Cover your hair with a cap and let the coconut oil mask sit for at least three hours; yes, I know it takes a long time, but you want your hair to absorb it as much as possible. You can wrap your hair with a towel or use a shower cap.
After a few hours, you’re ready to wash your hair. Remember to use a sulfate-free shampoo or a cleansing conditioner; both are very gentle and simply remove any dirt or oil.
We just applied coconut oil; most of it has penetrated the hair shaft, but we also want to retain some coconut oil and don’t want to use a strong shampoo.
Right after washing with shampoo, gently dry your hair. Now it’s time to apply the conditioner. Generously apply conditioner to your hair, and we recommend using a comb for even distribution of the product.
Here again, if you wish, you can cover your hair with a towel or use a cap, which is slightly more recommended, as it allows the mask to stay on overnight… yes, overnight, so nutrients can deeply penetrate the hair shaft.
The next morning, it’s time for freedom. Completely wash your hair dry and towel dry it, and finally, the last step, apply a spray or conditioner. Of course, don’t rinse. You’re ready to go out…
Second week of treatment:
- Follow the first week’s routine for 3-4 days.
- For example, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- On other days, do whatever you want.
Third week of treatment:
- Do the first week’s daily routine 2 times.
- For example, on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- On other days, you can skip the coconut oil mask and deep conditioner.
Fourth week of treatment:
- Perform the first week’s daily routine once: choose one day.
- On other days, use gentle, sulfate-free shampoos or cleansing conditioners.
What to do after the 4-week treatment?
In the fashion world section of SelmaDerma, we recommend that you follow the fourth week’s plan weekly. After this intensive 4-week treatment, you should definitely restore or at least maintain some length of your bleached hair.
Well, we believe this 4-week treatment isn’t the only suitable method and is for the long term the only way to restore damaged hair.
There is a type of miracle hair treatment that can help you maintain bleached or damaged hair. We’ve seen its amazing results after just one treatment, and it’s truly a treatment that can be called magic. There’s no need for a 4-week treatment; just one treatment can do the job.
This magical treatment can restore your burnt and bleached hair after one session.
If someone were to ask me: What is the best treatment for these hairs? I can undoubtedly say it’s Olaplex. This is a professional treatment recommended by many salons as a unique remedy that is completely safe and easy.
Yes, you can buy this treatment, the same professional products bought by those in salons. This professional method is for repairing hair damaged by chemical or thermal processes.
How does Olaplex work?
The chemical processes (bleaching, coloring, etc.) and thermal processes break down chemical bonds (the famous disulfide bonds) between the molecules of your hair or its proteins (keratin), leading to dryness and breakage. This treatment helps to reconstruct and reform broken bonds through a very simple process, meaning you will have softer and stronger hair.
How to use Olaplex?
- Olaplex No. 1: (called Bond Multiplier) which has about 100% active ingredient: it’s concentrated and intense.
- Olaplex No. 2: (called Bond Perfector) which contains around 15% active ingredients: it’s cream-based.
- Olaplex No. 3: contains about 10% active ingredients: a maintenance product (in cream form).
For the main treatment, you need to use bottles 1 and 2:
- First, pour the companion solution into the bottle.
- Remove the cap and mix the solutions together.
Treatment for bond strengthening and repair:
- Gently shake bottle number 1.
- Remove the small cap and press the bottle to dispense the product.
- Mix 1/2 ounce (15 ml) from bottle number 1 with 3 ounces (90 ml) of water.
- Apply from root to tips (it’s better if the hair is slightly damp) (you can use a mild shampoo to wash out the product).
- This really builds the hair and makes it combable.
- Add a bit of water inside the container to use all the product.
- Gently massage, then wait for 10 minutes.
- Now it’s time to use bottle number 2.
- Do not wash your hair with bottle number 1.
- Massage generous amounts of bottle number 2 into your hair and use a comb for even distribution.
- Wait for 10 minutes. The process can be extended beyond 10 minutes for severely damaged hair.
- The longer it stays on, the more effective it is, especially for severely damaged hair. We have seen amazing results from those who waited 30 to 60 minutes!
- Finally, rinse, shampoo, and condition.
Maintenance and repair phase:
Usually, clients use 1 bottle of number 3 once a week. This retail system essentially contains the same active ingredient as what’s in bottle number 2, helping to maintain your results.
How to use this bottle?
- Wet your hair, apply a generous amount of the product to towel-dried hair.
- Massage and comb to ensure all your hair is covered.
- Wait at least 10 minutes (you can leave it longer if you wish, say 20 to 30 minutes).
- Shampoo and condition, and typically use it once a week.
- Well, you see that it’s very easy to apply and use these products.
However, this treatment isn’t cheap. If you can afford it (remember it’s a professional product you can use at home without paying for the service), it’s truly worth it. We aren’t the only ones surprised by its effectiveness. But if you can’t, try our more affordable 4-week treatment or our homemade recipes.
Yes, you know we also love exploring home remedies that can sometimes be effective and save you a lot of money.
In this case, for bleached and damaged hair, let’s be honest, the product we tested above is much more effective. However, home solutions can be genuinely appealing and can help with dry hair or slightly damaged hair repairs.
